The PI Ceramic bimorph piezo line of Multilayer Bender Piezo actuators provide displacement up to 2 mm, forces up to 1 N (100 g) and response time in the millisecond range. The multilayer PZTs are manufactured from 20 to 40 µm ceramic layers using a co-firing process. Multilayer bender PZTs offer several advantages over the classic bimorph PZTs that are manufactured by gluing two ceramic plates (0.1 to 1 mm) together: excellent humidity protection, wide operating temperature range, vacuum compatibility and high stiffness. The main advantage, however, is the drastically reduced (factor of 3 to 10!) operating voltage of only 60 Vmax. The reduced voltage allows for smaller drive electronics and new applications such as medical equipment.
APPLICATION EXAMPLES: Micropositioning, wire bonding, optical and electrical switches, beam deflection, acceleration sensors, textile machines, valves.
