High Performance Rotary Stage / Spindle with Air Bearings
PI has added to its large selection of high precision air bearing rotary stages (spindles). The new A-627 air bearing rotary spindle features a table diameter of 300mm and can handle loads up to 900lbs (4.2kN).
This preloaded motorized rotary air bearing stage is designed for operation in any orientation with side loads up to 260lb (1.2kN).
Why Air Bearing Spindles?
Air bearing spindles / rotation stages provide higher precision than conventional rotary stages based on mechanical ball or roller bearings. By using clean, compressed air as a cushion to keep surfaces from touching, friction and wear, vibration, and particle generation are eliminated. Due to the lack of friction, no heat is generated in the bearings. To provide the surface smoothness and tight tolerances required to keep the optimum gap between the spindle and bearing, ultra-high-precision manufacturing equipment and quality control processes are required.
