Precision gantries can be used for 3D bioprinting, which  enables therapies that were – until recently – only known from science fiction movies.

The printing process of individual cells and bio materials requires highly precise 3-axis motion systems to move and position the print head in 3 degrees of freedom, but also exact dosing technologies for the extremely small droplets.

In both cases PI technology can help. For the dosing part, PI provides standard and custom piezoelectric transducers and for the motion part, a selection of tried-and-proven multi-axis stages and positioning solutions are available. Control is through our ACS-based industrial motion controllers that also synchronize third party equipment, such as lasers and dispensers precisely with the 3D motion path.

Gantries / Cartesian Robots

A gantry precision positioning stage is sometimes called a linear robot or Cartesian robot. Gantries typically provide motion in 2 or 3 linear degrees of freedom (X-Y and X-Y-Z) and are often used for pick and place applications, 3D printing or laser machining, and welding applications.
