US-Manufactured Precision Linear Stages and Rotary Stages

Stages for Automation with Direct-Drive Motors and Mechanical Bearings


PI has introduced several US-manufactured families of direct-drive linear and rotary stages tailored for highly accurate 24/7 applications in precision automation, motion control, and nanopositioning.

Frictionless Direct-Drive Motors Provide High Speed and Long Service Lifetime

All product lines are powered by non-contact, 3-phase direct drive motors and are equipped with integrated direct-measuring linear encoders. Absolute measuring encoders are available for most of the new linear stage families. The stages are designed and manufactured at PI’s engineering and manufacturing facility in Shrewsbury, MA. Applications include sample inspection, precision micro- assembly, semiconductor inspection and metrology, photonics alignment, as well as mass-production of ultra-high precision components.

80mm Width: V-141 – Economical and Compact Linear Stages

The V-141 linear stage family, developed by PI USA's engineering team, is the smallest and most economical among the new stages. Currently available with three travel ranges of 40mm, 60mm, and 100mm, it offers excellent straightness and flatness to 2µm and bidirectional repeatability of 120nm with a maximum velocity of 1000mm/sec. The 40mm variant boasts a compact footprint of only 80x80mm, making it ideal for space-constrained applications. XY and XYZ configurations with an integrated counterbalance on Z are also available.

95mm Width: V-571 – For Ultra-High Precision Nanopositioning and Alignment Applications in a Compact Package

The V-571 family of nanopositioning linear stages is specifically designed for applications requiring extreme accuracy and geometric performance. This nanopositioning stage excels with 0.5µm straightness and flatness per 50mm travel, along with pitch and yaw of 50µrad and 25µrad, respectively. When calibrated with an A-81x motion controller, the V-571 linear stages achieve guaranteed positioning accuracy of 100nm and bidirectional repeatability of +/-60nm.   Applications include sample inspection, precision micro- assembly, semiconductor inspection and metrology, photonics alignment, as well as mass-production of ultra-high precision components. Two magnetically counterbalanced vertical translation stage variants of the V-571 are available with 25mm and 50mm travel.

130mm Width:  V-572 Stage Family – For Ultra-High Precision Nanopositioning and Alignment Applications

Featuring a larger motor with significantly higher drive force, the V-572 linear stage series has a body width of 130 mm, compared to 95 mm for the more compact V-571 family. This increased form factor supports higher dynamic performance with higher load capacity, making the V-572 stages well suited for demanding, high-throughput precision motion applications.  A vertical translation stage variant of the V-572 featuring a user-adjustable magnetic counterbalance and 50mm travel is also available.

160mm Width:  V-573 Stage Family – Higher Loads and Longer Travel

The V-573 direct-drive linear stage series long travel ranges with high dynamic performance for demanding positioning tasks. With travel options up to 360 mm, ironless 3-phase linear motors, and velocities up to 500 mm/s, the V-573 stages deliver fast, smooth, and friction-free motion. Ultra-precision crossed-roller bearings and direct-measuring encoders provide excellent straightness, flatness, and bidirectional repeatability, making the V-573 ideal for high-throughput scanning, metrology, and optical alignment applications.

160mm Width: V-574 Stage Family – Highest Precision Encoder Option

Like its smaller brother, the V-574  family of nanopositioning linear stages provides excellent accuracy and guiding precision. With a body width of 130mm it can carry larger objects. Three travel ranges of 60, 130 and 230mm are offered as well as three encoder options,  including an absolute encoder and an ultra-high precision 4µm pitch linear scale from Heidenhain. 

270mm Width: V-827 – Wide-Body Linear Stage for Heavy Loads, up to 1000mm Travel

The V-827 family of wide-body linear stages is tailored for positioning and automation applications involving larger motion ranges, objects and loads.  With travel ranges up to 1m, the wide body design makes the stage ideal as base for multi-axis setups, offering higher stability and preventing deflection errors of a mounted Y-axis better than narrower base stages.  V-827 stages can carry loads up to 150kg and achieve a maximum velocity of 2m per second. Similar to the other motorized linear translation stages mentioned above, the V-827 provides maximum performance when used with our A-81x or A-82x series of EtherCat®-based motion controllers.

V-62x Direct-Drive Rotation Stages

All of the above stages can be combined with the V-62x series of direct-drive rotary stages.
