PI's most recent rotary air bearing stages deliver a virtually unlimited lifetime of superior accuracy in a package only 60mm tall. The new A-635/A-637 PIglide low-profile stages have no rolling or sliding elements and deliver frictionless, non-contact motion, resulting in negligible reversal error, better wobble, eccentricity and velocity stability - ideal prerequisites for high-end industrial applications such as inspection, metrology, calibration, and scanning, including cleanroom environments.

In case you weren't one of the 23,000 registered attendees that converged at SPIE Photonics West 2018 to view the new wave of optics and photonics advancements in industry and research, you missed seeing these active motion systems demos:
Piezo stack actuators provide high dynamics, but can also be used for quasi-static applications due to their high-stiffness and stability given the relatively simple operating principle of extension of the stack changes roughly proportional to the drive voltage, with typical strain on the order of 0.1% of the stack's length available. Charging and discharging of a piezo actuator is related to charging and discharging an electric capacitor. Programmable piezo shims is a new technology, also based on the piezo effect, which can be utilized in situations where high resolution and stability are crucial, but a continuous drive voltage is unwanted and accessibility for manual adjustment is not possible.
Learn more about EtherCat®based motion control technologies, such as nano PWM switching motor drives and the advanced servo boost control algorithm that allow better stability and resilience against external disturbances, allowing sub-nanometer resolution combined with the highest speed and throughput currently available.
Just released, the C-886.31 controller is for use with PI's miniature 6-axis piezo hexapods based on Q-Motion inertia drives. Position input is easy using Cartesian coordinates as the controller takes care of all the coordinate transformation for the parallel kinematics motion system. A user programmable virtual pivot point makes alignment processes more flexible. The C-886.31 is equipped with its own data recorder and macro programming allows for stand-alone operation.
